FFL Transfer Fee$30+ TN sales tax
Tennessee Background Check (TICS)$10Pass-through to State of TN — not taxable

14-Day Pickup Policy

We're a working firearms shop, not a storage facility — counter space is at a premium. To keep things moving for everyone, we have the following pickup policy:

  • 14-day grace period. You have 14 days from arrival to come pick up your transfer. We'll make multiple efforts to reach you using the contact information your seller provided.
  • After day 14: storage and audit fee. Transfers not picked up within the grace period accrue a fee of $0.50/day + tax, in addition to the regular transfer fees above.
  • After 6 months: forfeiture. Any transfer not picked up within 6 months will become the property of Clarksville Guns & Archery.

If something is going to delay your pickup, just call us at (931) 802-8912. We're reasonable people — communication solves almost every problem.

For Active-Duty Military Customers

For active-duty service members on deployment, we will hold transfers beyond the 14-day grace period when notified in advance. If you're deploying or expect to deploy while a transfer is in transit, let us know your expected return date before — or upon — the firearm's arrival.

If You Don't Have a TN Driver License Yet

If you do not have a Tennessee driver license or TN Handgun Carry Permit with your current address, please bring:

  • A copy of your orders bringing you to Fort Campbell, and
  • If you live off-post: a utility bill or vehicle registration connecting you to your off-post address.

Active-duty service members with PCS orders to Fort Campbell have dual TN/KY residency status and can buy and transfer firearms (including NFA items) through our Clarksville location regardless of which side of the state line your off-post residence is on.

NFA Item Transfers (Suppressors, SBRs, SBSs)

If you're transferring in an NFA item that you bought from another dealer or another individual, the transfer fee is $125. This includes your Silencer Shop kiosk fingerprinting and Form 4 processing through the ATF eForms system.

For the full NFA process — how Form 4 works, current ATF wait times, the difference between buying through us vs. transferring in, individual vs. trust ownership, and the recently-eliminated $200 federal tax stamp — visit the dedicated NFA page.

If You Bought from an Out-of-State Dealer

The dealer will need a copy of our FFL to ship your firearm. They have two options:

If You're Receiving from a Private Party

The person shipping you the firearm can send it directly to our address. They should include in the package:

  • A copy of their government-issued photo ID, and
  • Your contact information (name, phone, email) so we can reach you when it arrives.
Note for private-party shippers: Some states only allow dealer-to-dealer firearm shipments. The shipper is responsible for understanding the laws of their state before sending. Also: please do not use loose packing peanuts — they make a mess and they don't actually protect the firearm. Foam, bubble wrap, or paper packing material is much better.

What to Bring to Your Pickup

Valid Government-Issued Photo ID — Tennessee driver license, state ID, military ID, US passport, or other qualifying ID. The name and address on your ID must match your current residence.

Tennessee residents: Your TN driver license or state ID is all you need. TN Handgun Carry Permit holders may also use their permit as supplemental ID.

Out-of-state residents: Long guns (rifles and shotguns) can be transferred to residents of any US state. Handguns can only be transferred to Tennessee residents — if you're not a TN resident, the handgun must be transferred through an FFL in your home state.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the transfer process take at the counter?
The Form 4473 and TN background check typically take 15–30 minutes in the store. Most are approved within minutes. Occasionally NICS issues a delay (up to 3 business days) before approval — we'll keep you informed throughout.
Can I transfer a firearm I bought from a private party?
Yes. The seller can ship it directly to us — just have them include a copy of their photo ID and your contact information. Note that some states require firearms to be shipped FFL-to-FFL rather than from individuals; the shipper is responsible for knowing their state's law.
What if my background check is delayed?
NICS delays are common and don't mean you've been denied. Federal law allows us to transfer the firearm after 3 business days if no denial has been received. We'll contact you as soon as your check is resolved.
Can you receive NFA items (suppressors, SBRs, SBSs)?
Yes. The NFA transfer fee is $125, which includes Silencer Shop kiosk fingerprinting and Form 4 processing. The federal $200 tax stamp was eliminated for suppressors, SBRs, and SBSs effective January 1, 2026 — the Form 4 process is unchanged but there's no longer a $200 fee. Visit our NFA & Suppressors page for the full process.
I live out of state. Can I pick up a handgun here?
No. Federal law requires handguns to be transferred in the buyer's state of residence. If you're an out-of-state buyer purchasing a handgun, the firearm must be transferred through a licensed FFL in your home state. We can ship it onward to an FFL in your state. Long guns (rifles, shotguns) can be transferred to any US resident.
How do I let the seller know where to ship?
Provide our store name, address, phone, and FFL license number to the seller at time of purchase. Most online dealers have a built-in FFL selection process. Our information is in the "Our FFL Information" section above.
What if I can't pick up within 14 days?
Just call us. We're reasonable — if you have a legitimate reason (deployment, hospitalization, work travel) we can usually work with you. The $0.50/day storage fee applies after the 14-day grace period regardless, but we'd much rather hear from you than have you ghost the transfer.
Can I have multiple firearms shipped to the same transfer?
Yes. Multiple firearms received in the same shipment are typically processed as a single transaction at the counter. Call us if you have a large shipment coming so we can plan counter time.
By having an item shipped from another party to Clarksville Guns & Archery, you are agreeing to the terms of this page. If you have any questions about a transfer before shipping, please call us at (931) 802-8912 — we'd much rather answer questions up front than untangle a problem later.
